6dof movement refers to freedom of movement of an object in three-dimensional space. The HoloLens and Oculus Quest both support 6dof manipulation of objects which gives you far more intuitive control over the movement, rotation and scale of objects in your MR/VR environment.
Moving, scaling and rotating objects with hand rays
You can move geometry in Fologram by pointing your hand/controller ray’s cursor at objects, holding the trigger (or air tapping with hand tracking turned on) and drag. To scale and rotate objects, point both rays at the same objects and drag inwards or outwards
Moving, scaling and rotating objects with 6dof ‘Grabbable’ objects
You can manipulate objects far more naturally with Fologram’s ‘Grabbable’ option in Grasshopper. Grabbable objects make use of the Quest’s 6 degree of freedom feature (6dof), which gives rotational tracking of objects as you ‘grab’ them in MR/VR. To turn this feature on, send geometry to your device with a ‘Sync Object’ component in Grasshopper, right click on the Fologram logo and turn on ‘Grabbable’.
In your HoloLens or Oculus Quest, put your controller/hand on the object and grab it with the trigger button (or air tap and hold with hand tracking enabled). The object’s rotation will follow the rotation of your wrist. You can also scale objects with a two controller grabbing motion.
